We used to shop regularly at Asda Gosforth when we lived a bit closer and the kids were at local schools so this was the first time we’d been in quite a while since moving. The whole store has really gone downhill. Outside areas are poorly maintained and litter strewn. Inside is drab and the state of the aisles and shelves quite shocking. Low stock levels are common these days in most supermarkets but no excuse for such untidiness. Made for a very unpleasant shopping experience. Staff used to be friendly and upbeat. Don’t know what’s happening behind the scenes but the atmosphere is dour. Come on Asda, give the place and people a bit of much needed tlc.

The cafe staff - one woman in particular - relish in treating customers badly and being as unhelpful as possible.

For the last five visits I’ve had to wait several minutes for anyone to even appear at the counter. They are always out the back. No wonder the cafe is dead. I’ve seen multiple people, including myself just stand and wait and then walk away.

The last three times I’ve tried to, I’ve not been able to get a take away coffee. Today the woman who loves to be difficult said she didn’t have any cup lids and so quote “it would be illegal” to supply me with a take away cup to use at one of their self service machines.

Firstly, make sure you have the lids. It’s not difficult is it, surely? Secondly, it is not illegal. If hot drinks need lids by law, then why do regular hot drinks in the cafe come in ceramic cups without lids!? It is not illegal to serve a cup without a lid. It happens regularly and the staff member would usually just apologise for the lack of lid and advise the customer to take extra care. Thirdly, the sheer delight taken in not being able to provide a drink and making the customer walk away without what they wanted. Just a staff member with a personality not suited for the job and who has lost sight of why they are actually there, to provide customers with the service advertised.

To demonstrate I’m not being unreasonable, I use the kiosk several times a week and the couple of regular women who staff it are very good and competent at their jobs. The cafe however is a disgrace.

be careful buying their fruit. i love fruit and try to eat it daily and all of them are always moldy from here. i've gotten it more than 20 times and i always find mold. (i only keep buying because it helps with my gallstone attacks and i never have time to go grab it anywhere else) today i've just gotten blueberries, blackberries and raspberries from here and they expire in 3-4 days. 20 of them were moldy from two boxes, the bluberrries only had 2 that wasn't moldy. why asda 🙁

Staffs are amazing but the locals who shop there are racist. Was standing in the queue just to be confronted by an idiot over nothing because he thought foreigners are not welcomed. If you are any other race shop elsewhere like Gateshead or Benton superstores.

At least 25% of the store is dedicated to clothing…. But no fitting rooms? Hadn’t anyone told them covid rules were relaxed about 4 years ago? Shoplifting they say…who would rob the rubbish clothes they sell? And don’t get me started on the lack of humans on the tills!

My son just been to Asda payed for shopping and the security stopped him in the way out and accused him of shoplifting not paying for any of the shopping because he did not pick up this receipt and used my card to pay for it he had to ring me and then send him proof of paying off my banking app before they let him go I wonder what training these security staff have if they can just pick on young lads I will be speaking to the member of staff himself when I finish work they were people around going passed and possibly know him and people now think he is a shoplifter and he is not

Should go for groceries and wide range of spirits. Bakery shop and cafe is a plus point. Its amazing to see wide range clothes in an affordable price. Loved to buy miniature of Glenfiddich and JD for a gift. Grooming section is also well maintained with lots of offers. If going from city center can go by metro if not taking car.
