A wonderfully scenic location on the B1257 a few miles outside Helmsley. There are car parks and walking / biking trails within the plantation at the top of Newgate Bank and it is well worth a visit.

A lovely, free parking spot, with a good choice of various moor and forest tracks to explore. I knocked off one star as one path that we use for a circular walk is now badly overgrown with bracken and nettles. On arriving back at the car we checked over our dog and found seven ticks, so please be careful.

Wow stunning views from up on Newgate bank it had just stopped raining ☔️ and there was a glorious rainbow ? across the valley has it was my first time here I’ll have to visit again and explore when the weather is better

Lovely forestry commission car park for Ayton Bank and Newgate Bank loop walk. Went on Christmas Eve (2020) and it was snowing and peaceful.
