Just been in the Barnstaple Postboffice to exchange my driving licence ... expected to just pick-up a form, but I was assisted, by a South African lady who did it all in minutes.
Amazing service and so pleasant with it ... 5star service ...many thanks! Glenn

I have to echo the previous comments.
Went to the PO at 16.35 hrs yesterday to post a RMSD.
Initially there was two members of staff working, dealing with 2 customers who had numerous parcels to post. While a 3rd was "cashing up"
While standing there I was joined by a further 8 customers. One of the cashiers was having a real good chat, and appeared to be in no hurry to finish. I heard them saying that though the PO is open until 17.30 hrs. That doesn't allow them to cash up and finish. So, having finished their chat and customer one, appeared unfazed by the queue that had formed. The cashier then promptly closed her till and started packing parcels away.
Eventually, the 3rd cashier opened up her position.
All I wanted was to have my parcel scanned, AS I HAD DONE ALL THE WORK FOR THEM!
There was NO self service tills open.
The cashier assured me that as it was RMSD it would reach its destination today, guess what it hasn't!
And no tracking information.
I attended the PO this afternoon and the same cashiers were busy, but on this occasion the queue was half way down the shop.
And AGAIN no self service tills or staff available.

We all understand that its probably their busiest time of the year, so logic would suggest, that there was more staff available, obviously not.

No wonder so many people are using other companies.

For a town the size of Barnstaple, the main PO, is totally inadequate and currently not fit for purpose.

Royal Mail/PO please sort it out.

Well over the last month I've started using your post office service in the Barnstaple and I have to say Petra and her team are absolutely amazing .

We have a small business but didn't want to do the drop and go service as we preferred this personal service

The customer service and the attention to detail is outstanding

Suddenly Barnstaple PO has improved , really lovely staff now, that are smiley and helpful. New faces behind the counter who are informative, friendly and efficient. At last an excellent PO

Posted a parcel at Barnstaple Post Office. The staff explained the options clearly, but the best thing was the staff were really happy and cheerful.

I hate to complain but 3 x I have been in and an older man who works in the post office is incredibly rude. I refrained from commenting or making a complaint the first 2 times as I know customer service workers can have bad days, and it is a challenging environment. However, I feel this man needs to be mindful of his tone and should be made aware that he comes across as antagonistic and confrontational.

I arrived at the post office at 12:46 on a Saturday (closes at 13:00) - the opening gambit was "don't you know we close at 13:00?" - which immediately made me flustered and confused as I was there before this time, and only wanted to quickly collect a parcel. Then demanding "have you got your ID?", in a tone that suggested I am fraudulently trying to collect a £3 vinted parcel, was a little extreme. No please, no thank you, no explaining why he needed my ID, or apology for demanding it so aggressively. I actually had another query I felt too uncomfortable to ask and left with my parcel, whilst trying not to cry.

I am neurodivergent and I appreciate this makes social interactions somewhat harder for me, but having worked in customer services and public facing roles for >10 years, I think the basic lack of manners is unacceptable. It costs nothing to be kind. I have made a complaint through the Post Office but think it needs to be noted if you have any accessibility needs or social anxiety etc - go to another post office.

The older man always overcharges me! I often come into the town to post and when i do its always a letter that is fairly flat and small and i know it fits through as a large letter , which should cost around 3 , but he never bothers to check it through the sizing board and just charges me nearly 5! When the other staff serve me they actually take the time to use the size board and charge their customers correctly

This post office is situated inside the WHSmith store. It's very handy to have a post office right in the middle of the main shopping area. They offer all the usual services you would expect from a post office.
