The wood was largely dead. Not very accessible from the road. A bit muddy in places when I went but good exercise with the slight hilly terrain.

To locate it is slightly tricky. I approached by using the forestry commission track off the A34.
If you take the track and follow until you hit a crossraods, take the left hand turn and follow your instincts as there are no waymarkers.
The walk was very nice on a cool autumnal morning (no rain) no one else was around and the sound of the road quickly disappears.
The goal was to find what claims to be an iron age hill fort. Once again it is difficult to discern, no ditches or earthworks but you feel its isolation.
There are signs of wildlife, rabbit, fox etc. The birds are ever present and the overgrown terrain is just beautiful.
You can look towards the downs banks on the horizon and to tge west the hill sweeps away.
I spent 2 hours up there just observing the fox poop, ferns, animal tracks and a wee shelter.
I feel a few visits coming on!
