I worked at this place from 2008 to 2010 during the recession and it is full of racism. Primarily from Asians who think they are white and show immense racism and bigotry towards their own. It is so bad that it gave me PTSD after I left.

There’s nothing more frustrating in engineering than seeing a fundamentally flawed project get defended instead of fixed. This is exactly what happened at Capita Symonds in Blackburn, where a bridge (previously located on the A666 Whalley New Road crossing the River Blakewater) was built too short—a glaring design error that caused it to collapse into the river, though the geriatrics that design this will deny this. Instead of admitting responsibility, the company tried to blame a homeowner who was simply digging their garden.

To make matters worse, when the repair was clearly simple and straightforward, I was pressured to keep booking time onto it—classic corporate inefficiency and waste. But here’s the kicker: they never even repaired it. The collapsed structure was left as it was, a testament to their negligence and unwillingness to take ownership of their mistakes.

Rather than focusing on real engineering solutions, the priority seemed to be deflecting blame and justifying billable hours. If companies focused on getting it right the first time rather than covering their mistakes, we’d all be in a much better place.

This is the kind of waste, incompetence, and mismanagement that holds back real engineering work. If you’ve dealt with similar nonsense, I’d love to hear your experiences. Are companies too afraid to admit when they’ve made a mistake? Or is this just the reality of modern engineering bureaucracy?

Unfortunately all the trash and waste that has now left Capita has now moved to WSP. So god help the people of Blackburn.
