I am currently attempting to access my SIPP which has been with HL for many years. Due to a minor error in the paperwork provided by my occupational pension scheme (NHS), HL are refusing to process my withdrawal. The NHS are (predictably) useless in relation to correcting the error. HL are totally intransigent in helping me and have a 'computer says no' attitude. I can see no way forward and in effect I have ceased to own my SIPP because HL are refusing to release it. I entrusted this firm with my savings. This was a major mistake. I strongly advise readers not to repeat my error

They used to be good but seem to have gone downhill as they've expanded. Leaving aside their infatuation with Neil Woodford which cost a lot of people(like me) money, a lot of the phone line staff seem undertrained and the system itself not very good. I phoned this morning and it sounded like the other person was stood in a bar with 10 people shouting at the phone (don't they make enough money to buy a decent phone system?) My mums money is currently marooned in her account because they want to re-confirm her address, the one she's lived in for 56 years. Not easy when she's severely disabled and has no passport or driving licence to confirm her address electronically. Their response is, "rules 'innit" and seem disinterested. Anyway, between family members and friends they've lost over a £1m of investment money so their loss. I await the cut and paste corporate response below.

As others have said, used to be very good & competent and professional. I have been trying to move my father's SIPP to HL for the past three months and frankly it's just a shambles - forms lost, wrong forms sent out, forms that have already been received asked for again, huge delays in trying to speak to anyone on the phone, people who you do speak to not understanding or not having the required knowledge. Numerous secure messages were sent to the helpdesk since 7 February and were simply unanswered.

I think I need to reconsider my advice to my father to recommend HL and look at alternative brokers.

Been with them for along time. Very Ill so need to close account. They wanted info. Sent. Promised to transfer money by end of settlement day. Didn’t happen. They didn’t have the forms I had sent. They are basically holding my money because of post (they needed my new address although have same nominated account.) Have dealt with lots of promises made on phone that were not acted upon. Very, very angry. It is MY money and it’s going to same person and bank account. No empathy for the terminally ill.

I've had to call Hargreaves Lansdown a few times recently with my Mum due to a bereavement and they have been absolutely wonderful. Super efficient and empathetic service. You can generally get through on the phone within a couple of rings. All their staff are clearly well trained.

Do not under any circumstances open a business account. I’ve been trying to withdrew cash funds for 10 weeks with no success. The Customer service is a car crash, lies, deceit, incompetence. I really hope the funds are not missing, but that is what I’m starting to suspect. Do not expose yourself and your company to the risk of doing business with them.

I am asked to send a written letter to be able to change my address my account being locked. Every other financial organisation allows you to reset your passwords using email or mobile phone numbers via codes being sent. This is not for security reason, this is to make it difficult for clients to withdraw money.
