AVOID: This review is based upon personal experience. It is hard to know where to start but I'll start with this: do not use Markerstudy under any circumstances. I allege that they are scammers and they are certainly untrustworthy and unscrupulous. As you can see they have a 1.6 out of five review aggregate which is in itself misleading because the lowest mark one can attain is 1. And the added 0.6 is due to the garages repairing vehicles. These are third-party garages and they have received some good reviews but they are nothing to do with Markerstudy. In fact, Markerstudy gets an aggregate review of 0 out of 5 in my opinion.
Why is this? They are discredited and discreditable. They are allegedly scammers. I acted on behalf of a friend of mine whose car was insured with Markerstudy. She was insured with Markerstudy through a broker. It seems that brokers routinely use Markerstudy to insure car drivers who have a bad record as was the case with my friend.
But then out of the blue, Markerstudy said that a person of Asian origin was making a claim against my friend. They made this claim 18 months after the so-called accident. My friend has no recollection of this accident. She challenged it but was ignored.
Anyone making a claim 18 months after the so-called accident is an unusual event I would argue and initially it smacked of a scam as Markerstudy's reputation is so poor.
However, it has transpired that the motor vehicle near miss occurred but my friend is still seeking medical evidence to prove injury.
As a consequence, Markerstudy demanded over £1000 extra which my friend failed to pay and she was notified through her broker that her insurance policy has been cancelled and that over £200 had been deducted from her account as a cancellation fee.
In defending my friend through telephone conversations with Markerstudy personnel, I encountered some terrible customer service.
A man I spoke to was simply horrendous. He could not be described as a customer service provider. He was argumentative, arrogant and wouldn't let me get a word in edgeways. He was the worst kind of person.
Remarkably, when I phoned him, my mobile phone lit up bright red with a warning that I was talking to a scammer. Clearly this person's reputation preceded him. Other people had recorded him as a person to be avoided and as a scammer. That's why my phone lit up red as a warning.
After a long argument with him over about 50 minutes he was removed from the file after I complained about him.
I did speak with one nice person but nothing really good came out of it. Overall, the experience was horrendous both for me and my friend. You don't have to take my word for it. The reviews speak for themselves. Probably tens of thousands of other customers have suffered the same kind of experience as myself and my friend.
The conclusion is what I've stated at the beginning: avoid them. If you use a broker asked them whether they are going to employ Markerstudy to ensure your car. If they say they will then refuse. I say that with complete conviction and certainty.
In a better world Markerstudy would be shut down by a regulator. But in this country, financial services regulators are appallingly inefficient and almost constantly asleep. And therefore we, the public, are alone in our battles against disreputable businesses like Markerstudy.
Kevin Spencer is the managing director or the chief executive of Markerstudy. He is proud of his business he says which has a £2 billion turnover. Ironically, he is a magistrate which would tell you a lot about the quality of magistrates in the UK! He should be ashamed of himself for creating such a disreputable business. A scammy business I would allege. Everybody who has been abused by this business should write to him and tell him what they think of him. He is the worst kind of businessman in my view. This man must be unscrupulous and I would allege he must be dishonest because that £2 million turnover is based upon dishonesty. And it is business leaders create the culture in their businesses. He is to blame.
