By far the worst experience I've ever had renting a house and when I say avoid like the plague, I suggest you take notice.

I am currently in one of their properties and and having lived here now for 2 months (of 12 that I'm meant to), I'm at my wits end with them.

I'm in a property that didn't have adequate sanitation when I moved in, Rent UK weren't overly bothered by that. It's taken them a while to half rectify, although it's not fully rectified as the bathroom has water running from under the bath constantly, the bath panel is wooden and full of mould.

I'm forever cleaning up debris and brickwork as the house is falling to bits. The front door is practically hanging off. One kick and an intruder would be in to take all of my things if they require.

They couldn't give a toss putting peoples lives at risk. Several windows in the property don't open at all, Rent UK knew this before I moved in and didn't bother to rectify. My poor daughter has had to sleep in a room with their outdated boiler in some extreme temperatures, but they don't care.
Should there be a fire whilst we are here, Rent UK are in serious trouble as windows don't open. It means it limits where we would be able to escape from. One likely area is the kitchen, and if in the bathroom, you wouldn't be able to get out without attempting to smash your way out. I can only hope that doesn't happen because Rent UK would be facing some serious problems if so.

I have electricical sockets that don't work, some that make buzzing noises and spark, but the ultimate prize is the loft. No insulation. Holes in the tiles with daylight creeping through.
I will not occupy this property in winter with my children under any circumstances, I'm not prepared to allow my children to freeze to death. I've a chain of emails as long as my arm to Rent uk about these issues and many more, I sometimes get a random work man turn up out of the blue to "fix" something but I'm never given notice. It's potluck what they fix and when they fix it.

This company are a shambles, and I am kicking myself for being so naive and believing that they had a decent home to offer me and my family.
2 days before the tenancy was due to start, I attempted to withdraw, and a "manager" wouldn't allow me.
It is my belief I was bullied into being here right from the get go, my circumstances pointed to not coming here, and I tried to pull out but they wouldn't allow me (now I know why, nobody in their right mind would have lived here).

Their own subcontractors don't speak of them highly, too. And when I had a plumber out, he explained he had told Rent UK about one of the bedroom windows not opening, and guess what? They didn't fix it. They allowed me to move in regardless.

Please avoid these cowboys.

Read through the reviews. Understand I'm in touch with environmental health at the council and I am not prepared to take any of the issues I've faced lying down. Someone needs to be held accountable for what stress and pressure this company have put me through. I will update you in due course with what happens.

*update
Environmental health came out and have given them a list a mile long of jobs they have to fix. Staff got rude with me on the phone and said "well you were the one who phoned the council!" - is it any wonder?
I'm still in touch with the MP, and legal action is happening. My mental health has taken absolute battering since living here and I just want to get out.
Based on the jobs they have to do I asked to be released from my fixed tenancy, and I was told a flat NO. However I'm going to keep trying. The impact this has had on me and my chileren has been nothing short of scandalous. I've lived here 3 months now and STILL windows don't open
My daughter can't sleep in her bedroom due to the heat and the exposed boiler. Nobody should have to live like this.

UPDATE

The environmental health found a 24 page report of faults with the property, had I not been in it at the time, they wouldn't have been legally allowed to let it out without having all the repairs done. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I'm really shocked at reading some of the reviews on here. Not to say they're experience isn't truthful but would hate for anyone to be put off by them as my experience has been nothing but positive. I've been a tenant of Rent UK (North West Branch) for just over 2 years and they have been fantastic from the get go.

I have had 2 maintenance issues since moving in which have been resolved immediately. Most recently just today my bath tap was broken, I called them to report and within 40 minutes I had a new tap installed! Absolutely faultless.

Thank you Rent UK 😃

Went to view a house with my partner…got there prompt and 10 minutes before viewing, yes the weather can cause delays and disruption but to be still waiting 35 minutes later with no prior communication of agent being late or on their way is just not good enough. Two calls to the company regarding the timing issue were ‘passed on to the agent’ yet no response was received. No photos of the front or back of the property in which a back gate was needed and improvements to the tiling would definitely be needed, no description of these improvements were added into the advert for the house…Overall a terrible experience with no communication and a lack of empathy when it came to discussing the issues above.

Terrible attitudes from staff when trying to resolve an end of tenancy agreement.
Unorganised and inefficient when trying to get them to sort this out.
Refusal to alert council tax of end of tenancy, bond has not been returned.

When house inspections were completed to hand keys back, they stated house was cleaner than when they gave it over, yes it was! Property needed a deep clean before moving in, despite them lying that it had been cleaned. Definitely not a newly renovated property as they advertise!

Extremely unprofessional. Arranged viewings which were rearranged on the day, and then nobody turned up. I had to travel from another town. I rang and they said they'd tried to contact me (lie, 0 missed calls, yet my number had worked fine for them earlier in the day) but they can rearrange the appointment. Unprofessional joke.

Had such an awful experience. Moved in July 2023 started out lovely but then began to lose some roof tiles come dec/January 2024 reached out to them they sorted it. Lost some more in the storms and the two of the bedrooms (one of which occupied my 1 year old) became wet and damp and moldy with visible damage that came on fast! So we reached out to them February said they were sending a roofer out to have a look which they didn’t so we emailed a couple of weeks later to which they replied saying a roofer had already been out to see damage baring in mind we have a ring doorbell and would need access to be able to see damage. Emailed them again saying that they were chasing up the roofer and would let us know never heard from them, we called them multiple times as we were expecting a newborn and didn’t want mold etc. mold was coming up through floors. In the end had to move out because it wasn’t getting sorted. Still yet to see the deposit back even though the damage was done through mold and damp! Never again AVOID AT ALL COSTS!! they’re more focused on purchasing more properties than looking after the tenants in the current ones!

I’m so glad I didn’t see these reviews before I had already signed the tenancy agreement because they would’ve DEFINITELY put me off moving into the beautiful home that I rent. Every and any little issue that I’ve had since moving in to the property, Rent UK have been SO helpful! Everything has always been sorted within 24 hours maximum. They’re polite, helpful and - in my personal experience - genuinely do care about their tenants. To anyone who’s reading these reviews - desperate to move but disheartened by these horror stories - I personally would say go for it!!! There is not one spot of mould, damage, mess, infestation anything at all in the property I rent. Communication with Rent UK has been smooth, clear & pleasant. I truly hope the wonderful service I’ve received thus far continues. What I will say is CAREFULLY read the contract before you sign it. People need to be aware of what THEY are responsible for when they rent a property as I think a lot of the problems people are complaining about are clearly stated in the tenancy as being their problem to deal with. My home is absolutely lovely and I would hate for someone as desperate as I was for a fresh start to miss out because these reviews scared them! If anything changes I’ll for sure come back and update my review but personally I think they’re wonderful and I’m so glad I went ahead with the move 🙂 xx
