Deeply disappointed — wouldn’t recommend

We were shocked by how little our policy actually covered. After our beloved dog Jack passed away, we were told that out of a £3,500 vet bill, only £40 would be reimbursed due to various internal policy limits. We were so disheartened that we didn’t even bother submitting the claim.

Unsurprisingly, we decided to cancel the policy we held for our other dog — it felt pointless to keep paying for something that offered so little support when it really mattered. To add insult to injury, we were then charged a £30 cancellation fee, despite never having made a claim on that policy.

I strongly advise anyone considering this company to look elsewhere for pet insurance.

We have unfortunately had our dog insured with this company for 4 years and the one time we made a claim it was declined. I doubt they had enough time to review our claim and agree with others that I'm sure they decline claims more than they will cover them. Please do not waste your money, Plenty of better dog insurance companies are out there. Sadly I only know this when I have moved our insurance due to this Shoddy company.

New to scratch and patch this year - policy appeared good however when we made a claim after our Staffordshire bull terrier became lame the “inner limits” were implemented and so we were left with a £4500 vets bill which scratch and patch contributed £400 to. Please check your inner limits so you are not left out of pocket like we have been - won’t be recommending scratch and patch to anyone in the future.

My dog had to be pts. I was told that I couldn't cancel my monthly direct debit if I wanted to make a claim. So basically I am continuing to pay for my dead dog. I then was told that after any claim that is authorised they deduct the remaining balance of your yearly premium from your claim. So for me, excess and yearly premium comes to £600 so I am out of pocket for that to start with. Absolutely disgusting as a loyal customer. What a con insurance is!!

If your Pet passes away hopefully it's at the end of the policy Year! Had the Policy for our Dog all his life with Scratch & Patch. The Policy renewed at end of Sept. Sadly our Dog passed away end of Nov. On making the claim for his vet care in his last days & his euthanasia and cremation. I was told by Scratch & Patch if I. Claimed in the new policy year i would then have to continue to pay for the policy until the 12 months was up! Even though our Dog would have been dead for 10 Months of it ! Disgusting! DO NOT USE!

I had my doubts as I hadn't checked reviews etc when I changed insurance to these. Bare in mind only ever claimed once when my dog was a pup & now age 11 nearly I thought it will be fine. Anyway, 6mnth after taking this insurance she was really sick & needed emergency op, but I had absolutely no problems at all it was quick & easy to complete online & they paid within 2weeks! I would definitely recommend 👌 👍

Can’t start a new policy with them via DD, as apparently my bank keeps cancelling it, not the case. So will take my business elsewhere

I strongly advise being very careful and reading everything in the policy before you agree to taking out any insurance with Scratch and Patch. My 13.5 yr old dog accident injested something and needed medical treatment. I was only compensated for 1/5th of my £650 vet bill. A few weeks later we had to let her pass away (last Friday) and found out today that we are not covered for euthanasia as she is over 8yrs old. I phoned to say we had to let her go and the advisor asked if I had given her away!! I either have to keep paying the premium for the next year or If I want to cancel my policy I have to give them everything they issued out back!! all £139 worth. The staff are rude and divert calls to inappropriate departments, who apologise and say how unhelpful customer service is.
