An outstanding team and an outstanding retirement option.
After looking at several retirement options for my father, we chose The Hawthorns in Braintree, we could not have made a better choice. My father has been a resident at The Hawthorns for 18 months and the quality of accommodation and the standard of service continue to delight me. Paul & Sandra run a first class team that would rival a stay on a luxury cruise liner. The quality of the food in the restaurant is first class, (Dad has been restored to his fighting weight), and the table service is friendly & efficient. There is a schedule of events for the residents every week which encourages the residents to build great friendships and enjoy themselves. Housekeeping provide a first class, and friendly service with the rooms kept clean & tidy with no disruption to the residents. Maintenance is first class with safety a top priority and the building, its wonderful garden, and surroundings kept clean and tidy always. In this digital age, it is outstanding to note that I have never seen a member of staff distracted by a smartphone, their attention is 100% focused on the residents. This permits an attentive, friendly & caring atmosphere. I wrote to the home to express my thanks and they asked if I could share my observations with a Google Review, which I am delighted to do. I have no vested interest in leaving this review, other than to thank the team for their care of my father, the other residents, and to share my experience with others who may be seeking a retirement home for themselves or for their own elderly parents. Thank you.

I am a Singer and I have the pleasure of entertaining the residents and guests at The Hawthorns Braintree. This is a beautiful place and the minute you walk in you can see that every attention of detail has been designed to give a very high class establishment. A grand piano greets you just inside the entrance.
It has a lovely atmosphere and every time I sing here the residents seem so happy to be here.
Every member of staff is cheerful and helpful and you can see the residents interaction with them is great.
I always look forward to coming and entertaining everyone here.
Well done to everyone.

I am an employee of this company. I have worked here for over 2 years. It's a really good company to work for. They will try to accommodate when needing time off or wanting additional hours. The managers are all really easy to go and talk to with any problems or concerns. They are also willing to train me in the different aspects of the business which in turn has made me gain new skills and has led to being employed in a different department within the company.

Mum’s been at the Hawthorns for 2 years now, prior to COVID she was really bubbly and independently lived alone, like others this period really affected her and she struggled. She is so happy at the Hawthorns, she can interact with others and join in with the activities if she wishes . The activities are very varied, trips out, cocktail nights, singers, tea dances, exercise clases, health and well-being events to name a few! You still live independently and only partake if you want, she is so sociable that it’s ideal. There were no facilities that compared in the area she lived in so it was a risk to move her, absolutely no reason to worry. The team are fantastic, Sandra and Paul are superb managers and make sure everybody is well looked after. We visited for our annual Christmas dinner again this year in the private dinning with the family and mum’s closet friends, food as always was fabulous and the team very welcoming. This alternative option of retirement living really does provide an opportunity to live life still, had mum not come here and she had struggled on her own or lived with us she would have probably deteriorated rapidly. You know they are safe, fed and well cared for. If you want to stay in their apartment you can or for mums friends that visit from far away stay in the guest accommodation, you can visit anytime and participate in activities too. Thank you Hawthorns, be very proud of what you all do! It’s a very special option for your loved ones, I feel so comfortable she is somewhere she is content and happy xx

2wks ago I visited with my son & daughter-in-law. After a very pleasant lunch we had a guided tour of The Hawthorns by Michaela. It really was a fantastic experience. I couldn't believe it. When you enter the reception area it's like going into an hotel. No smell of "cabbage/cooking/urine" that one can normally associate with elderly living. Exquisitely furnished. A lovely, friendly hum of conversation all around. Cheerful faces, residents greeting you and not looking away. Apartments are fairly spacious and they're decorated to your design before moving in. Yey you are totally independent despite being in a large safe building. Staff very helpful and friendly. Over riding factor for me was the general airiness of the whole building, marvellous staff and general cleanliness throughout the whole complex. It I could give the experience 10 I would.

I am my stepmother’s only relative and when my father died we found The Hawthorns and it was the best decision ever. She has lived there for 7 years and I have no doubt that it has extended her life and given her care, comfort and companionship she could never have received had she been living alone. My wife and I have been frequent visitors, joining my stepmother for dinners and taking part in the entertainments, and we have always been impressed with the quality, cleanliness and quiet calm, as well as the friendliness of the staff. This is undoubtedly directly attributable to Paul and Sandra who have managed The Hawthorns throughout this period, including during the COVID 19 episodes, with an obvious commitment to their residents – nothing has ever been too much trouble and there has always been time for them to greet me and keep me informed. When my stepmother has needed personal assistance, it has been immediately available and all of her medical needs have been accommodated with concern and compassion. I do not offer this recommendation lightly as my wife and I both work in the health services and we are only too aware that the high standards consistently achieved in The Hawthorns are not to be found everywhere. Well done and thanks to all the staff who have been working so hard to keep my stepmother and all the residents safe and well.
