My wife and I went for a meal on Saturday. The staff are great and it’s a lovely pub to sit in. However the food was simply terrible. I had belly pork to start and I appreciate it’s a fatty meat but it was about 80% pure fat. I think most people would have left it but I am not fussy in the slightest. I had swordfish which was ok however the chips tasted and smelt of fish batter. My wife had a pie which was more of a cheap pub grub pie that didn’t reflect the price. I won’t be rushing back.

First time visiting here today.
I can only say that this restaurant deserves five stars all the way.
As someone who is keen to provide feedback based on my own unbiased observations, I can categorically say that the gents toilets were in fabulous condition, which is not often the case with food-serving establishments.
The food took twenty minutes to arrive, but I was in no way disappointed.
Attached to this review are images of the succulent Roast Beef Sirlion that I had for lunch today. Perfectly cooked, served with a smile, just amazing service.
I spoke with a gentleman working there in a senior capacity, Connor, and highlighted my hugely positive delight for everything since I was seated.
If you are considering visiting The Malthouse, then please do!
You will honestly not regret it.

A pretty and clean hotel , ideal for summer stays, however we stayed in December. When we arrived the radiator was put on in our room. It was so cold that we had to put our coats on the bed at night. There was no extra throw like most places. Luckily I had a new tweed coat. Still cold and we had come down from North of Scotland and have never encountered such a cold room in a hotel. Maybe a castle would be an exception. A pretty place but would have liked some cosiness. The shower requires some attention. The place is beautifully clean , but the management need to ensure a physically warmer welcome for those customers in December. We were so cold, we dare not take the risk of eating there, although downstairs looked cosy.

Sat 14 Nov 2024. Had an overnight stay with family. Great staff, rooms cozy and clean. Food was lovely. We had lunch, evening dinner and breakfast. Lots to choose from menu. Nothing was too much for the staff, very helpful with everything. We will be going again. Great stay.

Hosted a baby shower at The Malthouse and I was very impressed. We hired a private room, not the main function room but the small one adjacent to it due to the numbers in our party. The staff were very attentive, particularly Minarli. She was constantly making sure we we okay for drinks and comfortable. We had the afternoon tea option and there was a large selection of food which was all delicious! But there was also a bar with plenty of options.
The venue itself was decorated festively for Christmas and looked so lovely - from our private room to the main bar and restaurant area.
Can't recommend enough based on the experience we had.
Thank you for helping make my friends baby shower so special!

We had a lovely time and meal here. We had a large family group and got put in the upstairs room. Food was pre ordered and very nice. Puddings were pretty small and bland but other than that all good. A lovely decorated place.

Having to edit a previous positive review from 10 months ago due to the absolutely appalling customer service from this hotel. Booked several rooms for guests at my wedding 14/08/24, weeks had a meal here the night before and spent in excess of £500. On the day of my wedding one of the guests arrived at the hotel after the ceremony to check in and were given keys to someone else’s room. When they returned to reception they were told that I’d cancelled their room and there was no space left and turned away. I had to get our wedding coordinator to phone up to sort out and she was told the same and that we wouldn’t receive a refund because we’d not paid for it. My friends ended up not being able to drink at our wedding and drove all the way back to Manchester despite paying for a room at The Malthouse and paying for a babysitter. I paid £175 for two rooms as shown in the photos. My mother went in to the hotel the following day to resolve and was told “take it up with booking.com”. After months of going back and forth with booking.com and this hotel, the hotel have now stopped answering my emails. I have provided proof that I paid for 2 rooms so the hotel have either pocketed the money and don’t want to refund OR they think it’s acceptable that one of their customers does all the leg work chasing up booking.com rather than themselves. It’s been an utter joke. The worst show of customer service I’ve ever witnessed. Avoid at all costs.

Wow...I will find it difficult to put into words how amazing our overnight stay with evening meal and breakfast here was. I'm sorry I didn't take names but from the moment we entered the bar the staff were all extremely helpful and attentive. Food...it blew our minds. Great value for money, fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation and so tasty. Have booked a return visit 😃.
