This shop has a bit of everything and is really friendly and helpful. I’m a professional outdoor instructor and they’ve always got what I need if it’s connected with walking and general outdoor kit. No climbing gear but that’s not surprising or needed in Lewes. Footwear seems to be a main speciality. Highly recommended.

What brilliant service. I went in on a busy day and tried a number of boots, none quite my size. On a recommendation from a staff member, I bought Goretex Merrell walking shoes about 1 year ago. Since then:
I have walked many miles, cycled many miles, clambered a few miles, run a few miles, and more; in wet and dry conditions. They have been sturdy and grip well and are pretty much waterproof. They still look reasonably smart; so you can also wear them to go in a restaurant, etc,.

Fantastic service from this gem of a shop. I was looking for proper advice on getting some new walking boots, sadly lacking in many of the chain stores, and The Outdoor Shop is the exact opposite of the lacklustre chains - super helpful, knowledgeable and friendly, and a good stock of quality gear. Caroline knows her stuff, including great advice on foot health/mobility and choosing the right products. Very happy to buy from great indie shops like this; they deserve the custom.

This is a brilliant shop. I bought a new pair of boots there today and won't go anywhere else from now on. Don't even think about shopping for boots online or going to one of those chains (you know who I mean) where the shop assistants don't really know one boot from the other. The service was patient, really well-informed, and helpful. I've left with the most comfortable pair of boots I've had on my feet for years.

I wrote the above four years ago but was back there today to buy another pair of boots. It's still a brilliant shop and I can't recommend it highly enough. It's so refreshing to be advised by someone who really cares that you get the right thing for you and has the knowledge to back it up. It's a wonderfully friendly place and a real Lewes gem. Thank you!

Popped in for a pair of walking boots and ended up buying two pairs 😄

Great shop and great selection of walking footwear. James (?) was very attentive and was really helpful in advising on sizing. Definitely worth a visit, and highly recommended.
