A lovely country pub set beside the Thames. There's a well maintained garden beside the river, so if the weather permits, it's a really very nice place to sit and enjoy a beer or two. There were only two real ales on, a very good Hook Norton and sadly a Doom Bore. There's plenty of excellent local breweries, so I think they could do better than plump for a Cornish beer, if it's still brewed there. We ate in the bar, and there was a nice selection on the specials board as well as their usual stock menu. The portions were very generous and well cooked. I'd recommend this pub all day long. We just happened to visit on the day of a steam fair, so it was busy, but the staff coped well and service was excellent.

We stopped for a quick bite before a walk along the river Thames which is right next to the pub. The staff were friendly but you have to order all meals at the bar. It is cramped around the counter.
The food was tasty and plentiful. Plenty of parking at the back. Will definitely be back. Absolutely loved the walk along the river. Very picturesque.

Decent roast, nice vegetables, generous portions. Friendly staff, still served puddings passed last mains orders. Think the building/atmosphere may have been better in the main original pub bit.

Lovely gem of a pub by the river. Nice garden, friendly staff. Dog friendly, good home cooked food. The local trout was delicious with a proper salad not just leaves from a bag, and lovely buttery new potatoes. And the crumble with custard was excellent too.

Wonderful country pub with an abundance of charecter. Food was amazing and the staff super friendly and guessing "the owner" serves your food to you and was very attentive. Medium rare Steak was mouthwatering and the lemon meringue was delicious 👏 look forward to returning when the suns shining.

A cozy pub with great food and service!

The Trout Inn was one of our favorite dinner spots during our UK trip. The pub has a warm, cozy vibe with warm friendly service. The bartender struck up a conversation with us about where we were from and seemed genuinely interested, which made the experience feel even more personal. It’s clearly a local favorite, as the bartenders seemed to know many of the regulars.

They also had fantastic knowledge of local beer and gin, and their recommendations were spot on. But the best part was the food! I had the lamb shank, and my wife had the beef casserole – both dishes had a generous portion and were absolutely delicious. The entrees came with potatoes, cabbage, and mixed vegetables; and the price was more than fair for the amount and quality of food.

To top it off, they even had fun board games to keep us entertained while we waited for our meals. All in all, an amazing pub experience that we’d highly recommend!

A step back in time

Deep with historical routes with character and flair.
The owner has been running the show for over 30 years and still rocks the boat.
Sticking to its routes and offering traditional pub food and a selection of wet offerings to temp every palate

Great value for money with an extensive menu with lots of specials on offer displayed around the warming and inviting fireplace.

Lovely aged old building with low ceilings (watch your head), 3 x bar windows and a selection of traditional bar snacks.

The beer garden is extensive along the river which is nice to take in on sunny days.

Recommendation

Of course, traditional pubs are almost dead so get your self on course for a visit to enjoy lovely ambience.

All that is missing is music, yes, i understand its a grey area, however we love music and its in our blood.

This is my second review of The Trout Inn in a month, which is something I do not usually do, but praise is due for another great meal and I have no hesitation in saying the whole experience was a huge pleasure. Today we went for a celebratory lunch, having booked ahead for the restaurant. On arrival we found a long table of customers in the restaurant, enjoying themselves as they should, but we felt perhaps a little too noisy for our tastes. When I asked if it were possible to find a quiet table, the staff were immediately as helpful as could be and we were placed in the snug, which, in my opinion, was actually an upgrade. The snug is exactly that. A small room, very traditional with tall back benches, access to the bar and one dining table adjacent to a window. Decoration was genuine traditional English Inn and made the visit interesting. It was perfect for our quiet celebration. Again, praise due for the menu that was clearly marked for GF diners. We both had the Salmon, which was generous and perfectly cooked with a good salad and baby potatoes. Pudding were traditional and delicious.
I must also commend the management on the cleanliness of the Trout Inn. On both our visits we commented to each other that for a traditional pub, it is one of the best kept we have been to.
The staff were all lovely. Very friendly and attentive to our requests. Many thanks to everyone at the Trout Inn and also for kindly accepting delivery of some flowers for our table.
We are looking forward to our next visit and highly recommended this Thames side Inn.
